I started my erasmus year in September, 2005. I lived in a small but gorgeous town called Macerata, in the region called Le Marche. There are very clean beaches in the area but the citys are quite small. Spending a year there was a fanstastic experience, the people are friendly and the lifestyle is very relaxed.
I travelled around the country, all of it was beautiful but I would definitely recommend visting Venice and Florence.
Venice is magical, the catedral is spectacular and the ´San Marco square´ hosts an amazing carnaval toward the end of February. The whole city is built on water, every corner is worth a photo.
Florence is a really romantic city, it has an amazing catedral (made of green, white and pink stone) and is the center of Renaissance art. The ´Ponte Vecchio´ is a must see, by day and by night. There are gorgeous squares and great night life.
Where ever you are in the country you will eat well; ´pizzerias´ are very cheap but very tasty! Pasta is a must have in any restuarant… followed by a rich coffee and ice cream.
