We abandoned the city towards the South along Avenue 3. We passed by the private seaside resorts of Mar de las Pampas, Las Gaviotas and Mar Azul bordered by cypresses, acacias, pines and eucalyptus, and, almost without noticing it, we started to cross a unique postcard, composed by dunes and sea.
We were bordering the first Dune Reserve in the country, specially created to preserve the constantly changing coastal sand dune ecosystem, together with the local flora and fauna species.
We must be extremely careful when going along the Dune Reserve, as the offspring or eggs of the local bird fauna dwell among the dunes. In our tour we could watch seagull flocks, oyster beds, ducks, doves and chimangos. Among the mammals, it is possible to come by some European hare, some vizcacha, and even a red fox, if we are lucky.
The expert driver activated the double traction, and we started to go along the large beach. Our sight was lost in the coastal horizon, while a dosis of adrenaline took control of the situation, when the truck swung from one side to the other. We pulled up at the perimeter of a large dune, we descended from the off-road vehicle and we climbed to the top. Fortunately, Edy always carries some sandboards for anyone who dares to slide over the neverending dune to the bottom.
The young school boys did not hesitate and they automatically started to slide over the soft slope, letting gravity do its job. Moments of excitement, speed and vertigo invaded such space.
